and buying a small farm. We are going to raise mini horses and bottle feed baby deers. OK, not really but oh to DREAM! Never thought I would say THAT!!!
Yesterday, Bill needed help on a job and had asked me the other day if I would want to help him. We don't usually work well together when it comes to anything regarding well, "fixing." But I decided to give it a try and figured if need be I could always walk off the job and tell the boss to stuff it......
It was about 1 1/2 hr drive out of the city. I always enjoy drives with Bill. We always have really good, fun talks and yesterday was no exception. We talked about us as a couple, as parents, where we want to 'be' and when we want to 'be' there. Things we want to change around the house.
The job was on a farm. It was a really good day. Instead of us getting frustrated with each other we had fun. Bill explained in detail what he would need me to do and I would ask a zillion questions. It was interesting to see him work and to see him do it from beginning to end.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a city girl right down to my french manicure. I don't do well when it comes to, the 'great outdoors.' I'm not a fan of bugs and dirt. Or anything that gets me dirty. So that being said, I had on my oldest and of course most comfy pair of jeans that I wear when we are doing messy work around the house or painting. Hair pulled back, a little make-up (you can take the girl out of the city but not the city out of the girl) my oldest and best sweatshirt AND my pink/ leather work gloves and yes, I actually USE them. I helped Bill pull some pipe and little things here and there. Almost all of the job was done outside. And right next to us were the mini horses. They were so cute. They didn't even look real. They were about the size of a sheep. With beautiful manes of hair going down there backs. I spent a lot of time looking at them. 2 were pregnant. Poor little horse, waddling along with her huge belly. I asked the owner how long they were pregnant for....11 MONTHS! The owner was with us most of the time and he was really interesting.
It was so peaceful there. I LOVED the quiet. He told me when he bought the land it was all trees and they cleared it and built their house, fences and everything. It was the first farm that didn't smell like a farm. No smell of poop. Yuck. Maybe it was b/c he only had mini horses and no other animals, Oh except for the WHITE ELK!
He told me that he used to have deer. He now only has a baby deer. The mom died and so they had to feed it by bottle. And they still do feed it by bottle b/c they have fallen in love with it. So, he asked me if I wanted to go with him to feed her......oh.....hmmm....mud.....mini horse poopies..... Screw it I went. He called for the baby deer. There I was standing in the middle of a field, watching a baby deer come running out of the trees. She ran right up to us and I was handed the bottle and he told me to "Hold on!" I FED A BABY DEER! It was sooooo beautiful! Really quite amazing. I turned around and saw that Bill had come down after us to watch. I could see him smiling at me as I fed this beautiful creature. As we went walking back to Bill the guy says to me "and that is what we shoot to make jerky!" I didn't know if I should laugh or cry!
I had a great day. I sat for hours surrounded by beautiful trees and horses. Listening to a wood pecker. Hanging out with Bill. I think maybe I could get used to being a 'farmers wife.' I could play in the garden (with gloves) take care of mini horses (with gloves) and maybe take care of a wild animal? BUT I would need some cute pink work boots, maybe even some Carhart work pants ( I don't think they have pink for some reason.) Ohhhhh, maybe even a pink quad with all the whistles?!?!?!?
